Is Nasi McD a Failure? Here is my Comment.

Few months ago, McDonald's Malaysia introduced Burger Nasi Lemak, and it was in my opinion taste acceptably great despite not being mind-blowing enough. Then I was frustratingly waiting for the chicken and beef foldover during the Ramadhan to be introduced as it was normally done every year in occasion of the fasting month, it never came. What came was the Nasi McD which is up to now notoriously known for how confusing it is to Malaysian.
Abstract: Not a failure. A good and brave start, but there are many things to improve, especially on the sambal or sauce. Rating: 2.5/5.

Months had passed. We've been through Ramadhan, Hari Raya, and even Hari Raya Haji, yet the menu for Nasi McD is still there and recently they even promote it through a song. Is it too good? or is it way too bad that it stays too long for McD to finish their stock of Sambal?

I've tasted it myself few weeks ago and I believe it's the later. Despite the fact that people are confused what exactly is Nasi McD when McD itself never promoted its rice as chicken rice or nasi lemak, everyone could agree the sambal is the one thing that taste out of place.

Basically, it's butter rice with lettuce, chicken, egg and sambal (the same sambal you got from Nasi Lemak Burger) which is no where near as good as the KFC Colonel Rice. Nevertheless, I don't think it is a failure as I've tested it myself, but it's undeniable that there is a lot of thing to improve. The best option if you want to have a taste of Nasi McD is to control the proportion of sambal for each spoon of rice, and have it together with the Fried Chicken to avoid the rice from being overpowered by the taste of sambal alone.

I would love to give better rating since it's McD, but I couldn't. The sambal need to be adjusted accordingly, it shouldn't be sour, and the rice need to have more taste to it. I believe McD should be able to do better than this considering how big the franchise is, and how long it has been in the business. For those reason, I'm giving the Nasi Mcd 2.5/5.

p.s. McD recently introduced coleslaw as the new side item, perhaps we could have a taste of Nasi McD together with it instead of the sambal, just as how it is at KFC.
